We Mourn Pa Akinkunmi

Adieu Pa Akinkunmi

Nigeria’s flag designer Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi has died at the age of 84.

Announcing the sad news on Wednesday, Pa Akinkunmi’s son, Akinkunmi Akinwumi Samuel, took to his Facebook page to express his heartfelt emotions. “Life is indeed transient; I can say boldly you lived a life with a landmark,” he wrote. “Continue to rest on, my father! Pa Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi (O.F.R) Great Man has gone.”

Pa Akinkunmi’s brilliance shone brightly when he crafted the timeless design that would become the symbol of Nigeria.

His dedication and artistic insight culminated in a flag that perfectly captured the essence of the nation’s unity and diversity.

This creative masterpiece earned him a token of appreciation from the government – an award of 100 pounds – a sum that could never truly reflect the significance of his contribution.

However, his recognition didn’t stop there. The esteemed designer was further bestowed with the MON (Member of the Order of the Niger) Award, an honor presented by President Goodluck Jonathan. This prestigious accolade underscored Pa Akinkunmi’s indelible impact on Nigerian history and culture.
